2013 trip, Somewhere in between

Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming

After seeing the beautiful Tetons, Yellowstone didn’t knock us over with its beauty. BUT the fact that you’re pretty much in a volcano at all times is pretty cool. I’ll never forget how weird it feels to walk right over boiling hot springs and peek inside the earth’s crust. Tour buses full of people kind of killed the mood for us at Yellowstone. Getting to Old Faithful felt a lot like going to an amusement park; I wish there was a better way to keep the integrity of the awesome environment while also accommodating thousands of visitors daily. Our Mt. Washburn hike was my favorite day at Yellowstone—I think our plans to shower right after the hike was a large part of my motivation. (I won’t tell you how long it had been since we last showered, but we were overdue.)
